FAQ

Common questions about our Thai Express franchise opportunity

We’re looking for passionate and experienced restaurant operators to join our team, and we get a lot of questions. Here are some answers to the questions we hear frequently about our Asian food franchise.

WHAT IS THE TOTAL INVESTMENT?

We offer three general restaurant designs: a mall food court model, an in-line restaurant and a freestanding restaurant. Depending on which model you pursue, startup costs range from $454,050 – $876,700. Whether you’re opening in a shopping mall or on a corner lot, Thai Express works anywhere you might find a Chinese restaurant or sushi bar.

WHAT IS THE FRANCHISE FEE AND ROYALTY STRUCTURE?

We charge $30,000 for our current franchise fee and a royalty of 6%. See our current Franchise Disclosure Document for additional details.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS FOR OWNERSHIP?

We are seeking investors with a minimum of $150,000 liquid assets and a total of $400,000 net worth. A solid history of restaurant and hospitality experience is preferred, plus a passion for hospitality and food is a must.

WHAT ARE THE GROWTH MARKETS FOR THAI EXPRESS?

When Thai Express began in Canada almost 12 years ago, we opened with 5 stores. After joining the MTY Group family of franchise opportunities, we exploded across Canada, eventually growing to hundreds of stores. From mall food courts to corner mom-and-pops in rural Canada, Thai Express is there. Now, we’re bringing this concept to America.

We have significant pent-up demand and room for prime new locations throughout the United States and Canada. We offer tremendous growth potential with available space in choice locations. We believe our brand will quickly grow a great name recognition and a reputation for being one of the best bets in the Asian QSR dining space.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD LOCATION?

Thai Express does well in locations with a large amount of foot traffic and local population, competing well with Panda Express and other Asian QSR concepts. Our upscale appearance belies an affordable dining experience suitable for the casual Asian food enthusiast and the connoisseur alike. Areas with high counts for both foot and vehicle traffic will drive business, while good visibility will draw customer attention to our branding and marketing. Thai Express works well in locations where other QSR locations work, such as large shopping centers, mall food courts, and busy residential-business areas.

WHAT TYPE OF REAL ESTATE DO YOU NEED?

We have restaurant models for in-line stores, as well as mall food court models. This allows franchise owners who desire to lease to eliminate the cost expenditure of purchasing land or property, and the related time-consuming steps and processes, such as obtaining permits or contracts. These restaurant models are significantly less expensive to develop than other QSR concepts and faster to build.

HOW MANY EMPLOYEES DO I NEED?

Every Thai Express restaurant is led by a working owner who oversees a staff of between 12 and 15 individuals, consisting of four to five members per shift, depending on the size of the unit.
